Brave Spaces | 06.09.21 | Humanizing Bias, Part III

Brave Spaces | June Edition | Asking the Essential Questions

Bravery does not exist in the absence of vulnerability. And right now, what the world needs is bravery in the form of intellectual creativity, emotional brawn, and a relentless will to challenge ourselves to think beyond the stories we've been told about ourselves and others. Right now, the world needs the BEST of our humanity.

The Restorative Education Project hosts Brave Spaces, which aims to create critical, reflective spaces for educators and artists alike to practice learning, listening, sharing, and speaking; and in so doing, anchor our individual and social actions in philosophy and most importantly, humanity.

DRIVING QUESTIONS:
What is white?

What is black?

What is race?

What is supremacy?

Date | Wednesday, June 9
Time | 6:00 PM PST
Host | Sue Jin Kim

THE RESTORATIVE EDUCATION PROJECT'S MISSION STATEMENT:
The Restorative Education Project is a community of educators and artists dedicated to the principles of humanization, reason, reflection, and restorative education.

HUMANIZATION - Continuously recognizing, understanding, and cultivating the various attributes of humanity within ourselves and others (i.e. critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity). Embracing ourselves and those outside our various ‘tribes’ as human; that is, fallible beings with inherent worth, dignity, and value.

REASONING - Valuing and exercising the capacity to take information and form logical and contextually astute conclusions while acknowledging the limits of human cognitive processing (i.e. information overload, filtering, and authority). Reasoning in the digital age requires radical reflection and information literacy.

REFLECTION - Committing to the continual process of looking back to assess oneself and one’s own humanity for the purpose of expanding it.

RESTORATIVE EDUCATION - Restoring the best parts of our humanity through the process and institution of education.
